Formed in 1997, Citizens Bank was one of the country's first online banks. In 2008, we further differentiated ourselves by becoming the first North American-based bank to be carbon neutral. This means the CO2 emissions we create are now equal to the emissions we have reduced or offset elsewhere. We achieved this goal through a rigorous emissions reduction program focusing on energy use, staff travel, paper consumption and waste. In 2009, we moved to a more streamlined business model that focuses on our strengths - our Visa credit card and prepaid card business, our foreign exchange services and our commercial real estate lending.
